SC Cambuur organizes support for fans injured in fireworks incident

SC Cambuur is organizing support measures following a firework incident during a match against Feyenoord that left seven supporters injured. The victims suffered burns, eye injuries, and hearing damage. The club has invited the injured individuals and their families to a meeting this Saturday, which will include the Mayor of Leeuwarden to provide aftercare.

In addition to the Saturday meeting, SC Cambuur is hosting an information session on Wednesday for supporters to discuss the traumatic experience. Club officials, including General Director Jesse Bergsma and Safety Manager Jens de Boer, will be present to provide explanations. Evaluations involving the police and the municipality of Leeuwarden are ongoing.

The incident has sparked intense criticism regarding club responsibility and security. Media personality Johan Derksen criticized Feyenoord Director Robert Eenhoorn for his response, labeling the perpetrators ‘potential murderers’ and calling for stricter sanctions, such as total bans, rather than individual stadium bans.
