FGR agent dies in Zacatecas vehicle pursuit

An agent from the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) died following a vehicle pursuit on Federal Highway 54 in Zacatecas. The incident occurred on Friday, September 25, near the community of Sierra Vieja in the municipality of Villa de Cos.

According to the FGR, the pursuit began after federal agents signaled a cargo truck driver to stop, but the driver allegedly fled. During the chase, the heavy vehicle struck the patrol car, causing it to overturn. One agent died in the crash, and two others were injured.

The FGR clarified that the incident did not take place at an inspection checkpoint, addressing conflicting media reports. While local officials had previously noted concerns regarding alleged extortion points in the area, the FGR stated the collision happened during a pursuit following a failed stop order. An investigation has been opened to determine responsibility, and authorities reported that the truck driver was later located and detained in the community of Pozo de Gamboa.
