FGR seizes documents from Ingemar warehouses in fuel smuggling probe

The Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) has seized documents from two warehouses in the Miguel Hidalgo borough of Mexico City as part of an investigation into a suspected fuel smuggling network. FGR Attorney General Ernestina Godoy Ramos reported that the search yielded import certificates, assembly minutes, and contracts linked to Ingemar, a company where former Baja California governor Ernesto Ruffo Appel is the majority shareholder.

The FGR stated that the seized documentation provides evidence regarding foreign trade operations and may open new lines of investigation. The probe involves 25 individuals, nine of whom have already been detained, including Ruffo Appel, who is currently held in pretrial detention at the El Altiplano federal prison.

However, the Committee for the Freedom of Ernesto Ruffo has accused the FGR of fabricating evidence. Members of the committee claim that a warehouse previously secured by authorities contained only 14 boxes, but that the number increased to approximately 50 boxes containing new documentation after the site was seized. The committee also criticized Godoy’s justification for Ruffo Appel’s continued placement in a maximum-security prison while his legal process is ongoing.
