FIA and Liberty Media aim to finalize 2027 F1 power‑unit rules at Spanish Grand Prix
The FIA and Liberty Media are accelerating talks to approve the Formula 1 power‑unit regulations for the 2027 season. Their target is to reach a consensus during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend (12‑14 June).
Proposals under discussion include a 14 % increase in fuel flow, which would raise internal‑combustion power by 50 kW and cut the electric contribution by the same amount, resulting in a 450 kW‑300 kW split. An alternative solution seeks a 60 %‑40 % balance between combustion and electric power without major redesigns.
Ferrari and Audi have objected to the initial changes, citing concerns over reliability, cost and loss of competitive advantage. The regulators hope to present a final solution by the Spanish GP to secure the technical framework for next year’s cars.
