FIA introduces 2027 WRC regulations and Rally2 Kit

The FIA has introduced new technical regulations for 2027 aimed at reducing costs and performance levels for top-tier World Rally Championship (WRC) cars to achieve parity with the Rally2 class. A key component of this strategy is the Rally2 Kit, which includes upgrades such as revised front bumpers, fenders, and larger rear wings for existing Rally2 vehicles.

While M-Sport has publicly committed to developing the kit, interest from other manufacturers remains low. Major players like Hyundai, Škoda, and Lancia have not yet shown significant interest. A primary barrier to adoption is the financial commitment required; any entity utilizing the kit must commit to entering at least two cars per WRC season event, which necessitates a substantial budget.

Toyota is currently the only competitor designing a completely new car for the 2027 regulations. Additionally, the FIA is transitioning its terminology from 'manufacturers' to 'constructors' to reflect that independent operations can now purchase cars, such as those from Toyota, and compete in the championship.
