Fiat unveils Argo X as centerpiece of Brazil 50‑year anniversary plan
To mark 50 years of operations in Brazil, Stellantis announced the new Fiat Argo X, a compact hatch derived from the European Grande Panda and built at the Betim plant in Minas Gerais. The model will join the existing Argo in showrooms from 2026 and is the first product of the “Fastlane 2030” programme, which foresees one new vehicle each year through 2030, five launches in total. The rollout is backed by a R$ 32 billion (about € 5 billion) South‑American investment plan, with R$ 14 billion earmarked for Betim to expand capacity to up to 680 000 vehicles a year and to add roughly 1 200 new jobs. During the anniversary celebrations, CEO Antonio Filosa met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reaffirming Stellantis’ commitment to the market that now accounts for roughly 40 % of Fiat’s global sales. The Betim complex, which has produced more than 18 million vehicles since 1976, will host the new model and serve as a hub for future regional platforms. The strategy also includes keeping the current Argo in production, preserving model‑life cycles and resale values, while the Argo X targets the entry‑level compact segment against rivals such as Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Onix and Hyundai HB20.
