FIBA Europe President addresses NBA and EuroLeague negotiations

Jorge Garbajosa, President of FIBA Europe, has stated that current negotiations between the NBA and EuroLeague are strictly bilateral, leaving FIBA excluded from the direct discussion. Garbajosa noted that while FIBA has spent the last two years attempting to build a stable competition pyramid to protect domestic leagues and calendars, the NBA's involvement has changed the dynamic.

Despite being sidelined from the current talks, Garbajosa emphasized that all three parties—FIBA, the NBA, and EuroLeague—desire a tripartite agreement that benefits all European clubs rather than just a select few. He mentioned that FIBA has invited both organizations to its headquarters on three separate occasions to facilitate closer cooperation.

If a joint agreement with EuroLeague is not reached, Garbajosa confirmed that the NBA-FIBA project will proceed independently. He noted that the market response in Europe to FIBA's plans has been exceptionally positive and exceeded expectations.
