Fiber-optic rollouts boost internet in Austria's Dietmanns and Germany's Kinzigtal

In the Austrian market town of Dietmanns, cable operator kabelplus is extending its fiber‑to‑the‑home network to about 500 households and businesses. Around 160 premises already have FTTH connections, and an additional 50 will be linked this summer as the project progresses through the Obere and Untere Steinbreite streets. Mayor Harald Hofbauer said the expansion is a strategic investment in the community’s digital future, while kabelplus CEO Johann Moser highlighted the growing demand for high‑speed connectivity for remote work, e‑learning and other applications.

In Germany’s Kinzigtal region, Vodafone has begun activating fiber connections for roughly 450 previously underserved buildings in towns such as Gengenbach, Berghaupten and Biberach. The rollout follows the completion of a 17‑kilometre backbone and more than 51 kilometres of new fiber routes, forming the network’s digital backbone. Local officials and Vodafone representatives emphasized that gigabit‑speed internet is now part of basic infrastructure, supporting households, schools and businesses. The project is part of the Breitband Ortenau Gigabit‑Strategy, which aims to reach 121,200 buildings in the district by 2031.
