Fiber‑optic rollout announced for 460 homes in Bestwig and 12,000 apartments in Wiesbaden
In Bestwig‑Heringhausen, Westconnect and its partner Westnetz began installing a 7.2‑kilometre fiber‑optic line that will connect about 460 households and businesses. The project, marked by a symbolic ground‑breaking ceremony attended by the mayor and company representatives, offers residents a free connection option that can save roughly €1,500 in installation costs. Completion of the trench work is expected in the first quarter of 2027, subject to property‑owner authorisations.
In Wiesbaden, the municipal housing company GWW and Deutsche Telekom launched a five‑year programme to bring fiber directly into 12,000 apartments. The initiative focuses on the “last‑meter” installation inside buildings, using narrow metal channels to minimise disruption. Installation of the fibre socket in each flat typically takes 15‑20 minutes, though access to apartments must be coordinated with residents. The rollout aims to make high‑speed internet a standard, location‑independent service across the city.
