FICO report shows increased consumer engagement with credit in US
A 2026 FICO Score Credit Insights Report, conducted by The Harris Poll, indicates that Americans are increasingly engaged in managing their financial health. Approximately 89 percent of Americans took steps to improve their financial standing in the past year, with 56 percent checking their credit scores, an increase from 49 percent in 2024.
Despite higher engagement, significant knowledge gaps persist. About 11 percent of Americans do not know where to find their credit score, a figure that rises to 17 percent among Gen Z. Additionally, 17 percent of respondents feel they lack the necessary tools or knowledge to improve their scores. Roughly 23 percent of Americans report receiving insufficient education regarding credit scores, with Gen Z showing the highest level of concern at 30 percent.
