Fidel Castro centenary commemorated in Uruguay and Guyana

Commemorative events were held in Uruguay and Guyana to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro.

In Uruguay, the Communist Party of Uruguay organized a tribute featuring a speech by the Cuban Ambassador, Lissett Pérez. Pérez described Castro’s political thought as a dynamic process of ethical deepening, emphasizing humanism, anti-imperialism, and international solidarity. She noted that his vision evolved from defending national sovereignty toward a global ethics of human emancipation.

In Guyana, the Cuban Embassy and the Guyana Coalition in Solidarity with Cuba hosted a gathering to honor Castro’s legacy. Speaker Dr. Gerald Perreira characterized Castro’s vision as one built on human dignity. Perreira argued that the Cuban Revolution demonstrated resilience against external pressures and criticized global wealth inequality, citing reports that highlight the concentration of wealth among the world's richest individuals.
