Fidson Healthcare to manufacture generic Roche influenza drug

Fidson Healthcare Plc has been selected as one of 11 manufacturers to develop and produce generic versions of Roche’s antiviral influenza treatment, baloxavir marboxil. This selection is part of a voluntary licensing agreement between Roche and the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP).

The initiative aims to expand access to the treatment across 129 eligible low- and middle-income countries. By involving manufacturers from diverse regions—including Nigeria, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Uganda, Ukraine, and Vietnam—the program seeks to create a more geographically resilient supply base and strengthen global pandemic preparedness.

Selected manufacturers will receive technical data packages and support to facilitate product development and regulatory approval. Charles Gore, Executive Director of the MPP, noted that implementing these manufacturing capabilities before a health emergency occurs is critical for a rapid response to future outbreaks.
