Field secures planning approval for 3.6GWh battery storage project in Scotland

Battery storage developer Field has secured irrevocable planning consent for its 200MW/3.6GWh Rigifa battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Scotland. The project is designed to provide 18 hours of energy storage.

This development is one of the largest projects selected for the United Kingdom’s forthcoming long-duration energy storage (LDES) cap-and-floor scheme. The scheme, managed by the energy regulator Ofgem, aims to support investment in technologies capable of storing electricity for extended periods as the UK integrates more variable renewable energy into its grid.

Field has several other projects under development or construction in the UK, including the Long Stratton project in eastern England and the New Deer project in Scotland. The company currently maintains a portfolio of 490MW/1.5GWh of capacity that is either operational or under construction across the UK and Germany.
