Battery energy storage development in Australia

Overview

Samsung C&T Renewable Energy Australia has obtained formal grid connection clearance for the Mangoplah battery energy storage project in New South Wales. The 100 MW / 400 MWh facility, located near Wagga Wagga, received confirmation from the Australian Energy Market Operator that it meets technical requirements for the National Electricity Market.

The project is located on a 10.5-hectare site and will connect to the 132 kV electricity transmission network to provide system strength services and improve supply security during the renewable energy transition. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with commercial operations projected for 2028 or 2029.
