FIFA clears Bergson da Silva and Brad Tapp for Malaysia national team

FIFA has confirmed that Bergson da Silva and Brad Tapp are eligible to play for the Malaysia national team in the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced the decision following a review of the players' status in accordance with FIFA regulations.

Both players currently play for the club Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT). Bergson da Silva is a naturalized player, while Brad Tapp is a heritage player. Their eligibility provides Malaysia with additional options for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 5, 2026.

While the eligibility of Bergson and Tapp has been finalized, FAM noted that the status of two other JDT players, Manuel Hidalgo and Shane Lowry, is still under review by FIFA. The FAM is currently awaiting official decisions regarding their eligibility.
