FIFA to launch U15 World Cup in Azerbaijan in 2026
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced the creation of a new U15 World Cup, intended to include all 211 member federations. The inaugural tournament is scheduled to take place in Azerbaijan from October 22 to October 31, 2026.
Infantino revealed the project during a meeting in the Dominican Republic, stating the goal is to foster global football growth and reduce the gap between major footballing nations and the rest of the world. The competition is expected to involve more than 4,000 young players. To fund the initiative, FIFA plans to seek new revenue through sponsors, broadcasting rights, and commercial partnerships.
The announcement comes amid ongoing governance challenges and political pressure facing Infantino from various football confederations. Despite these criticisms, the FIFA president expressed confidence in his leadership and the support he receives within the organization.
