FIFA proposes $20 bn commercial subsidiary, faces UEFA and confederation backlash FAST-MOVING

FIFA announced plans to create a new commercial subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), valued at roughly $20 billion. The organization intends to sell a 20 % minority, non‑controlling stake to private investors – an effort expected to raise about $4.2 billion in cash. Investors being approached include Thrive Eternal/Thrive Capital, founded by Josh Kushner, brother of former U.S. president Donald Trump’s son‑in‑law, with JPMorgan selected to handle the fundraising.

If approved, the scheme would increase the funding each of FIFA’s 211 member associations receives, from the current $8 million per four‑year cycle to $20 million (or $40 million under an expanded offer) for the 2027‑2030 cycle. FIFA set a September 19 deadline for associations to vote on the proposal.

The plan has drawn strong opposition from UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation, CONCACAF and other regional bodies, which argue the move “crosses a line” and threatens the governance and soul of football. Some European federations have discussed a possible boycott of the 2030 World Cup if the proposal proceeds.
