FIFA U-15 World Cup to debut in Azerbaijan in 2026

FIFA will host the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, from October 22 to 31, 2026. The tournament is designed as a developmental event for youth players, featuring an innovative 8v8 format with two 20-minute halves played on smaller pitches.

This new competition is open to all 211 FIFA Member Associations. The 2026 edition focuses on boys' teams, with the 2027 edition dedicated to girls, and both categories scheduled to compete annually starting in 2028. Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, noted that the tournament aims to provide young talents from all regions with much-needed international competitive experience.

Several national teams have already been drawn into groups. Russia and Belarus are returning to FIFA competitions through this event following their suspensions related to the invasion of Ukraine. Other participating nations include Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Yemen, among many others. The event is expected to involve nearly 200 national teams and approximately 4,000 participants, including players, coaches, and officials.
