Fiji electoral training and UN Day commemorations
The Fijian Elections Office has launched the Community Elections Advocate Programme to strengthen electoral participation. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) VOTE-Fiji Project, the Australian Government, and the New Zealand Government, the initiative aims to equip community advocates with the skills to communicate election information effectively and empower citizens to participate in the country's electoral processes.
Separately, the University of Fiji marked United Nations Day by calling on the Fijian government to promote peace and inclusivity. Professor Shameem urged the government to adopt policies similar to those in Kenya and India, which use specific national designations to integrate diverse populations and foster social cohesion through partnership rather than assimilation.
