Fiji 2026 election and referendum preparations
Overview
The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has initiated preparations for the 2026 General Election and a proposed National Referendum. The FEO has outlined an electoral timeline with the Writ of Election expected between June and December 2026, and the General Election projected to occur between August 2026 and February 2027.
Financial and technical measures are underway, including an operational budget of over $23 million for the FEO and an additional $20 million for referendum preparations. To address technical issues from the 2022 election, the FEO has upgraded its software and cybersecurity infrastructure. As of June 2026, voter registration reached 723,771.
Further efforts to increase engagement include the launch of the Community Elections Advocate Programme. Supported by the UNDP, the Australian Government, and the New Zealand Government, this initiative aims to train advocates to communicate election information and empower citizen participation.
