FILEM 2026 opens in Toluca with focus on women authors
The 12th edition of the State of Mexico International Book Fair (FILEM) has officially opened at the Plaza de los Mártires in Toluca. The event, which runs until October 24, features 115 stands and approximately 90 public and private publishing houses representing over 300 imprints. A significant portion of the participants—44 percent—are independent publishers.
Under the theme ‘More authors, more worlds,’ this year’s programming places a strong emphasis on literature written by women. Featured authors include Cristina Rivera Garza, Dahlia de la Cerda, Mónica Lavín, and Ana Clavel, with discussions covering feminism, memory, gender, and resistance.
Beyond book sales, the fair includes workshops, cinema, theater, concerts, and a gastronomic pavilion. While the event saw a slight delay in stand openings and the last-minute cancellation of one scheduled talk, officials noted the importance of the fair for collective reflection. The previous edition of FILEM recorded over 200,000 attendees.
