FILEM 2026 book fair in Toluca
Overview
The twelfth edition of the State of Mexico International Book Fair (FILEM) concluded after nine days of programming. Operating under the theme ‘More authors, more worlds’, the festival focused on literature written by women, including authors, editors, and illustrators, with discussions centered on feminism, identity, memory, and social realities.
The event, held at the Plaza de los Mártires in Toluca and 12 alternative venues such as UAEMéx university centers in Tenancingo and Amecameca, featured 115 stands. Approximately 90 public and private publishing houses participated, representing over 300 imprints, with independent publishers making up 44 percent of participants. Activities included workshops, cinema, theater, concerts, and a gastronomic pavilion.
Organizers, including UAEMéx Secretary of Identity and Culture Cynthia Ortega Salgado, emphasized the goal of bringing cultural activities closer to different regions of the state and encouraging reading as a means of reflection. The fair was a collaborative effort between the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) and the Government of the State of Mexico. During the event, the Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (CODHEM) presented ‘Your obligations in the care of women, adolescents, and girls,’ a digital resource coordinated by Dr. Fátima Esther Martínez Mejía to assist public servants in defending the rights of women and girls.
