Filipino developers oppose potential Roblox ban
The Filipino Roblox Developers Association (FRDA) has expressed opposition to a potential total ban on the Roblox platform in the Philippines. The association argued that a broad ban would fail to prevent bad actors from accessing children through other online spaces and would unfairly impact millions of legitimate users.
In a statement, the FRDA urged authorities to implement a “more targeted response” by strengthening safeguards and addressing specific problematic features, communities, or communication channels rather than shutting down the entire platform. The group requested that the public be presented with clear evidence of safety failures before such broad measures are imposed.
The push for restrictions follows comments from Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, who suggested that a perpetrator in a recent school shooting in Zamboanga may have been influenced by the platform. The FRDA also contested claims that the individual was mimicking first-person shooter mechanics found in games.
