Film festivals announced for Cottbus, Cologne, and Itzehoe
Several film festivals in Germany have announced their upcoming schedules and programming for late 2026.
The 36th Cottbus Film Festival (FFC) is scheduled for November 3–8, 2026. The festival will feature over 140 films from 30 countries, including 29 films in competition. Notably, the feature film ‘A WOMAN ASLEEP’ will make history as the first fully AI-generated feature film to compete in the main competition of an established international festival. The event includes a new ‘GenNext’ competition focused on young directors and offers prize money totaling approximately 52,000 euros.
The 36th Cologne Film Festival will take place from October 29 to November 5, 2026. Volkan Üce’s documentary ‘2M2’ is among the 15 works competing for the Filmpreis NRW award. The documentary explores the concept of belonging through the funeral rituals of immigrants in Belgium.
In Itzehoe, the 17th European Film Festival of Generations will include a screening of the French comedy ‘Es sind die kleinen Dinge’ on November 11, 2026. The event aims to foster intergenerational dialogue through film and community discussion.
