Film festivals announced in Maldonado and Puerto Madryn

The Sesiones de Primavera film cycle, part of the Punta del Este International Film Festival, will take place in Maldonado, Uruguay, from October 22 to 24, 2026. Organized by the Maldonado Intendencia and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU), the event offers free screenings of national and regional documentaries, short films, and fiction. Activities include film forums and director encounters, starting in Pan de Azúcar with a showcase of local short films and the documentary ‘Río adentro’.

In Argentina, the 14th edition of the MAFICI festival will be held in Puerto Madryn from October 23 to 30. The event features over 80 films and includes a retrospective of director Alejandro Agresti, alongside appearances by actresses Sofía Gala and Marcela Kloosterboer. The festival program encompasses community outreach through ‘Cine en los Barrios’ and ‘Cine en las Escuelas’, as well as professional development via a project laboratory for emerging filmmakers. The opening ceremony will feature the film ‘La muerte de un comediante’ at the Ecocentro Puerto Madryn.
