Film festivals bring award-winning international cinema to Turkey

Major film festivals are arriving in Turkey, showcasing award-winning selections from international festivals like Cannes.

Filmekimi, organized by the Istanbul Cultural Arts Foundation (IKSV), will take place in Istanbul from October 9–18, Ankara from October 15–18, and in Izmir and Mersin from October 22–25. The program features several acclaimed works, including Cristian Mungiu’s 'Fjord', which won the Palme d'Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, and Paweł Pawlikowski’s 'Fatherland' (Ata Yurdu), which earned Pawlikowski the Best Director award.

Simultaneously, MUBI FEST Istanbul has commenced at Paribu Art. The festival opened with the Turkish premiere of 'Fatherland', a black-and-white film exploring the journey of Nobel laureate Thomas Mann and his daughter Erika Mann in post-war Germany. Other notable premieres in the festival lineup include Arthur Harari’s 'The Unknown', Lukas Dhont’s 'Coward', and Na Hong-jin’s 'Hope'.
