Film industry eyes 2027 Oscar race with major productions and Kosovar entry

The 2027 Academy Awards season is beginning to take shape with several high-profile productions positioned as frontrunners. Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, is considered a major contender for Best Picture following its significant budget and box office performance.

Other notable films in the race include Martin McDonagh’s political tragicomedy “Wild Horse Nine,” Olivia Wilde’s “The Invite,” and the sci-fi saga “Project Hail Mary” starring Ryan Gosling. International interest is also high, with “La Bola Negra” by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi and Cristian Mungiu’s thriller “Fjord” gaining traction.

In a specific regional development, Kosovo has selected Blerta Basholli’s film “DUA” as its official submission for the Best International Feature Film category. Director Basholli noted that the film is supported by publicity teams in Europe, New York, and Los Angeles to navigate the highly competitive Academy voting process.
