Film reviews and Czech cinema trivia

The Polish director Jan Komasa has released a new thriller set in Britain titled ‘Hodnej je’. The film explores the destructive dynamics of a modern family through a bizarre experiment. A man named Chris attempts to reform his son, Tommy, through extreme and unsettling methods. The household also includes Chris's wife, Kathryn, and a cleaning lady, Rina, an Eastern European migrant who is pressured into participating in the experiment to secure her legal status.

In Czech film history, actress Iva Janžurová famously declined the role of Vilma Krausová in the legendary film ‘Pelíšky’. Although director Jan Hřebejk had originally offered her the part, Janžurová rejected it because she could not accept the character's scripted death. She proposed alternative endings where the character survived, but the filmmakers chose to proceed with the original script, leading to the role being played by Emília Vášáryová.
