Filo Jet accident to set maritime law precedent
Şahap Tokatlı, a member of the High Council of Justice, has stated that the Filo Jet maritime accident will serve as a landmark case for criminal, insurance, and maritime law. He noted that an event of this magnitude has not previously occurred in the region.
Tokatlı emphasized the need for patience and restraint from the families of the missing to allow the judicial process to proceed effectively. He highlighted that investigations by the police and prosecution are ongoing, with new findings emerging as the inquiry progresses.
The legal proceedings involve the captain, crew, and those responsible for the management of the vessel. While it remains uncertain whether suspects will be tried in custody or released on bail, Tokatlı stressed the importance of upholding the principle of a fair trial and the right to defense.
