Following deep-sea operations by underwater engineering firm Derinsu Su Altı Mühendislik, which utilized robots and sonar to scan 10 million square meters of seabed, the confirmed deceased has reached 27. One person, identified as 3-year-old Anni Asel Hilaloğlu, remains missing from the original passengers and crew.

Judicial proceedings have highlighted significant structural negligence, including improper hull repairs using paint, silicone, and adhesive. Investigators noted that a crack had reportedly appeared on the vessel's side in June, approximately two months before the sinking. While the Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) was previously sent to Turkey for analysis, forensic examination of 68 days of audio data reveals the device was deactivated on August 28, two days before the sinking; investigators reported hearing footsteps on the device just before it was turned off.

VDR recordings have captured crew members discussing water ingress, generator malfunctions, rudder failures, and damage to radar and camera systems. One recording captured a crew member stating, “The ship is not a ship, the rudder is not a rudder,” while other communications included warnings such as, “the ship will sink” and “we are the only intact thing on board; everything else is half-finished.” Evidence also suggests the captain may have ignored passenger complaints regarding water ingress during previous voyages.

Nine suspects, including company director Ali Özdüşler, Captain Mustafa Öz, and Second Captain Merve N. Sercan, remain in custody following multiple detention extensions. They face charges of causing death through negligence and misconduct.
