Square Enix rolls out new FFXIV content at Berlin Fan Festival
During the 2026 Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin, Square Enix announced a slate of major updates for its MMO. The next expansion, titled Evercold, is scheduled for release in January 2027 and will introduce the new tank job Bastion, a class that can transform two shields into claws or ranged weapons. A limited‑time Beastmaster job was also detailed, featuring a unique "Crucible of the Unbroken" board‑game‑style activity and a roster of 50 capturable beasts.
Cross‑over content was highlighted, including an eight‑player raid "Beyond the Lifestream" based on Final Fantasy VII, and a 24‑player Evangelion‑themed alliance raid "Ghosts of Desire" with special guest artist and designer Maehiro Maeda. The festival also revealed a major UI overhaul for the game’s housing system and plans to modernise the user interface for casual players. In addition, Square Enix confirmed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of FFXIV will launch on 4 August 2026, with pre‑order discounts announced at the event. The new expansion package "Silver Wanderer" (白銀のワンダラー) was previewed, showing a new region called the Fourth World and additional gameplay modes such as "Reborn" and "Evolve". Executive producer Naoki "Yoshi‑P" Yoshida and lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa presented the announcements on stage.
