Final Fantasy XIV Evercold expansion announcement

Entities: Evercold expansion · Naoki Yoshida · Square Enix · Evercold · Naoki Hamaguchi

Overview

During the 2026 Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin, Square Enix announced its sixth expansion, Evercold, slated for a worldwide launch in January 2027. The reveal introduced the Bastion main‑tank job, which wields a pair of large shields named Skyltborg that can fire projectiles, and tied to the new "Evolved" combat mode that complements the existing "Reborn" system.

Evergold adds three new zones—Naglfar (Water Realm), Hringhorni (Fire Realm) and the city of Fargarth—allowing players to tackle story content in a flexible order with automatic scaling for mixed‑level groups. A limited‑time Beastmaster job featuring board‑game‑style activities and a major UI overhaul for housing were also detailed, alongside upcoming gameplay variants "Reborn" and "Evolve".

Collaborative raids will feature a "Beyond the Lifestream" chain with the Final Fantasy VII Remake and a "Ghosts of Desire" alliance raid with Neon Genesis Evangelion. The Switch 2 version will debut on 4 August 2026 with its own subscription tier, not requiring Nintendo Switch Online, while support for PlayStation 4 will cease after Patch 8.3.

The festival’s panel with producer Naoki Yoshida and lead developer Naoki Hamaguchi highlighted possible future remakes of older titles, underscoring Square Enix’s continued expansion of the franchise’s 30‑million‑player community.
