Financial firms pilot quantum computing for data analysis and security

Financial institutions are increasingly exploring quantum technologies for both data analysis and cybersecurity. LSEG is collaborating with Microsoft to evaluate quantum data analysis methods using the Microsoft Quantum Development Kit. The partnership specifically applies Quantum Tensor PCA to mortgage prepayment analysis, aiming to identify weak signals in high-dimensional datasets that traditional analytics may miss. Researchers hope this approach could eventually provide superquadratic speed improvements over classical methods on future fault-tolerant quantum computers.

Separately, LGT Financial Services is conducting a live banking pilot to manage post-quantum migration. Recognizing that waiting for a cryptographically relevant quantum computer would leave insufficient time for transition, the firm established a Quantum Safe Competence Center. This center coordinates security operations, architecture, and vendors to identify sensitive information that requires long-term confidentiality and to manage the complex dependencies involved in upgrading cryptographic infrastructure.
