Financial institutions advance blockchain tokenization and on-chain assets
Financial institutions are increasingly integrating blockchain technology to advance asset tokenization. At the Febraban Tech event, executives from Parfin and Itaú discussed the transition of traditional finance toward on-chain operations.
Alex Buelau, co-founder of Parfin, stated that the market is entering a new phase where tokenization involves concrete projects in banking and asset management. Parfin is launching Rayls Sovereign, a platform designed for financial institutions to operate tokenized products on private networks that maintain connectivity to public blockchains. This model allows institutions to preserve data privacy and regulatory control while expanding asset distribution.
Guto Antunes, head of digital assets at Itaú, identified the transfer of collateral as a primary use case for expansion over the next two years. He noted that blockchain can resolve current market limitations, such as strict cut-off times for traditional transfers. Antunes also mentioned that Itaú is monitoring tokenization projects by the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) to apply similar governance and scaling lessons to the Open Capital Markets network.
In addition to technological implementation, leaders from Banco do Brasil emphasized that regulation and standardization are essential for the growth of real-world asset tokens, noting that blockchain technology requires a regulatory framework to assign responsibility for transactions.
