Financial regulators issue warnings and new protections for investors
In the Dominican Republic, the Superintendencia del Mercado de Valores (SIMV) has introduced the Investor Protection Regulation (R-CNMV-2026-09-MV). This regulation, which follows principles from the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. The SIMV also launched the “Compromiso por una Publicidad Responsable” initiative to improve how the sector communicates financial products to the public.
In Venezuela, the Superintendencia Nacional de Valores (Sunaval) has issued an official warning regarding an increase in irregular offers and electronic fraud attempts. The regulator cautioned investors to verify the legitimacy of financial institutions and advisors through the official Sunaval website before conducting transactions. Sunaval noted that unauthorized individuals are using social media and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram to promote fraudulent investment schemes that lack institutional backing.
