Dominican Republic financial market regulation and education
Overview
The Superintendencia del Mercado de Valores (SIMV) in the Dominican Republic initiated a series of public outreach efforts through ‘Operación Inversión’. This interactive program, featuring theatrical performances in shopping centers, was designed to educate the public on investments, scams, and social media misinformation.
Following these educational efforts, the SIMV introduced the Investor Protection Regulation (R-CNMV-2026-09-MV), which is set to take effect on January 1, 2027. This regulatory framework follows principles from the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). Additionally, the regulator launched the ‘Compromiso por una Publicidad Responsable’ initiative to improve the communication of financial products to the public.
