Fincantieri delivers hybrid ferry and launches new luxury cruise ship

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has completed two significant maritime projects, including the delivery of a hybrid ferry and the launch of a new luxury cruise ship.

Fincantieri handed over the ‘Costanza I di Sicilia’ to the Caronte and Tourist Group (CTG). This hybrid electric Ro-Pax ferry is designed for Mediterranean service, specifically routes involving Sicily and its outlying islands. The vessel utilizes dual-fuel engines capable of running on MGO or LNG, supplemented by a battery pack and solar panels. This configuration allows for zero-emission port stays of up to four hours and enables faster transit times between Porto Empedocle and Lampedusa.

Additionally, Fincantieri launched the ‘Oceania Sonata’ at its Marghera shipyard. As the first vessel in a new class for Oceania Cruises, a brand under Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., the ship is expected to be delivered in 2027. The Oceania Sonata will have a gross tonnage of approximately 86,000 and can accommodate up to 1,390 passengers. This launch is part of a long-term development program involving six ships in the Sonata class.
