Finland braces for heavy weekend rain and traffic safety warnings
The Finnish Meteorological Institute forecasts a low‑pressure system to bring widespread heavy rain to Finland over the weekend, especially across the western and central regions. Rainfall could exceed 50 mm in places such as Kainuu and North Ostrobothnia, with local totals of 30‑40 mm also expected in Satakunta, Pirkanmaa and the coastal areas of Ostrobothnia. Temperatures are set to fall, ranging from 10‑15 °C in the rain‑affected zones.
Liikenneturva warns that the downpours will reduce visibility, lengthen braking distances and increase the risk of aquaplaning. Drivers are advised to lower speeds, keep wheels straight, avoid sudden maneuvers and stay clear of deep water pools that can damage vehicles or cause loss of control.
