Finland launches data center training amid Google investments
The Kotka-Hamina regional education provider, Ekami, is launching a ten-week training program focused on data center fundamentals. The initiative aims to prepare workers from sectors such as electricity, automation, and ICT for roles in data center operation and maintenance.
This training follows Google's announcement of a 13 billion euro investment in AI infrastructure and data centers in Finland. As part of this expansion, Google plans to grow its existing data center in Hamina, which has been operational for 15 years. While Google does not directly fund the training or guarantee employment, it has supported the development of learning environments and educational materials over several years.
The program is part of a vocational education initiative funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. Approximately 100 applicants applied for 24 available spots in the initial group. Due to high demand, Ekami is planning three additional training groups for next year.
