Sweden to send military support and Gripen jets to Finland

Sweden has decided to provide military support to Finland following a request from the Finnish government. This assistance includes the deployment of Gripen fighter jets and naval vessels to patrol the border area near Russia.

The cooperation aims to strengthen Finland's ability to monitor its territorial integrity and detect and intercept drones, which have frequently entered Finnish airspace due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Depending on requirements, Sweden may also deploy anti-drone units during the autumn.

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen noted that this bilateral and Nordic cooperation enhances NATO's deterrence and defense capabilities.

Separately, Finland has placed a preliminary order with Saab for the RBS 70 NG short-range air defense system. The contract, valued at approximately 108 million euros, includes training, spare parts, and maintenance logistics.
