Finland summer weather statistics show near-normal temperatures

According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, temperatures in Finland during August and the overall summer season remained near normal levels. While the summer-August period was broadly 0–1 degree Celsius warmer than the long-term average, many residents perceived the season as cooler due to a lack of extended heatwaves.

August recorded only three heatwave days (temperatures exceeding 25 degrees Celsius), which is six days fewer than the historical average. The highest temperature in August was 26.6 degrees Celsius, recorded on the 15th at the Salo Kärkkä and Turku airport stations. The highest temperature of the entire summer was 31.1 degrees Celsius, measured at Pyhtää airport on July 12.

Precipitation patterns varied significantly across the country. August was wetter than usual in central regions, extending from Southern and Western Lapland. In contrast, parts of Southern and Western Finland, as well as Eastern Lapland, experienced less rainfall than normal. The highest rainfall was recorded at the Tornio Kaakkuri station with 189.2 mm, while the lowest was at the Uusikaupunki Itätulli station with 11.9 mm. Additionally, lightning activity was notably lower than average, with approximately 8,400 strikes compared to the typical 21,000.
