Finland weather: Strong winds cause damage and power outages

Strong winds across southern and central Finland have caused significant damage, including fallen trees and power outages. In Kainuu, approximately 2,000 customers experienced electricity disruptions due to the weather.

Rescue services have been heavily engaged in clearing debris and fallen trees from roads. In North Karelia, fallen trees damaged medium-voltage power lines, and emergency crews were deployed to clear roads in Nurmes. Heavy rainfall was also reported, with Oulu receiving roughly 30 millimeters of rain over a 24-hour period and Mikkeli recording 13 millimeters within a single hour.

In Central Finland, the weather contributed to various incidents, including a medium-sized house fire in Hankasalmi where two occupants managed to escape. Emergency responders also addressed multiple instances of trees blocking roads in Korpilahti and Toivakka.
