Finland's berry harvest forecast predicts strong blueberry crop

Finland's Natural Resources Institute (Luke) forecasts an above‑average blueberry harvest this year, with the first berries expected to be ready for picking in early July. The forecast notes regional variations, with southern regions maturing first and weather conditions through summer influencing the final yield.

MTK food‑market expert Heidi Siivonen highlights that while Finland's forests can supply many pickers, a large portion of the berry crop remains unharvested each year. Under Finland’s “every‑one’s‑right” principle, anyone may gather wild berries without landowner permission, provided they do not damage the forest or collect from private gardens. Siivonen advises pickers to dress appropriately for insects, bring suitable containers, and keep berries clean and cool for storage.
