Finland's Midsummer sees warm weather and fire‑safety warnings amid storm alerts

The Finnish Meteorological Institute forecasts mostly clear, warm conditions for Juhannus, with daytime temperatures expected to rise above 25 °C in much of the country except Lapland. Thunderstorm warnings have been issued for the north overnight, and strong wind alerts cover parts of the western coast and the Gulf of Bothnia.

No fire bans are in force nationwide, allowing traditional midsummer bonfires. Rescue services stress that fires should be kept away from buildings, that extinguishing equipment be on hand, and that flames must not be left unattended. BirdLife Finland warns against lighting bonfires near nesting sites, noting that disturbing bird nests is prohibited by nature‑conservation law.

Seven people have died in accidents reported during the Juhannus period, including drownings, a house fire, and a fall from a balcony. Police are investigating three homicide cases linked to incidents on the same weekend.
