Finland's national broadcaster draws millions to puppy live stream
Finland’s national broadcaster, Yle, has seen massive engagement through ‘Pentulive’ (Puppy Live), a 24/7 live stream featuring a Lagotto Romagnolo dog named Hilkka and her litter of six puppies.
Originally launched in 2021 by science reporter Pirjo Koskinen, the stream has become a popular example of ‘slow TV.’ Despite Finland’s population of approximately 5.66 million, the webpage recorded 6.5 million views last year, while social media channels attracted 20 million views. The puppies, consisting of two females and four males, will remain on camera until they find new homes in December.
The broadcast provides a cozy distraction for residents as the country prepares for long, dark winters with extreme temperatures. Viewers can watch milestone moments, such as the puppies opening their eyes, learning to walk, and their first outdoor playtime.
