Finnish lawmakers targeted by mysterious home intrusions

Approximately 20 members of the Finnish Parliament have been targeted by mysterious home intrusions over the past year. The incidents, occurring primarily in the Helsinki area, involve subtle signs of entry such as moved objects, lights being turned on, and doors being opened, though nothing has been reported stolen.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo suggested that a foreign power may be responsible for these actions. Security expert Jörgen Holmlund characterized the incidents as a deliberate systematic approach intended for psychological warfare, aiming to signal that politicians can be reached even in their private homes.

Finnish security services have noted that while these methods are common among authoritarian states, they have not previously been documented in this manner against Finland or other European nations. The incidents have prompted increased security measures and investigations by the police.
