Firaxis and 2K announce new content for Civilization VII

Firaxis Games and 2K have announced a major content roadmap for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII during PAX West, marking the franchise's 35th anniversary. The roadmap includes a free update, a paid expansion, and immediate quality-of-life improvements.

In 2027, the free update “Arc of Tomorrow” will introduce the Atomic Age, a fourth playable era spanning from the 1950s to the 2050s. This era will feature modern urban architecture, updated technology and civic trees, and new leaders, including the return of Mahatma Gandhi. Gameplay will be expanded with new nuclear mechanics, including systems for mutually assured destruction, and new empire management tools like the ability to recognize the independence of settlements as City-States.

Also arriving in 2027 is the first major paid expansion, “Earthrise.” This expansion focuses on space exploration and the relationship between humanity and the environment. Players can progress from charting celestial bodies to launching space missions within the solar system. The expansion also introduces mechanics to combat climate change and natural disasters through terraforming technologies.

Prior to these releases, Update 1.5.0 is scheduled for late September. This update will introduce the “True Start Location: Earth” map, allowing civilizations to begin in their historical geographic locations, alongside various UI and diplomacy improvements.
