Romania faces surge in mountain rescues and multiple fires
Romania has experienced a surge in emergency calls involving mountain rescues and various fires across several counties.
Salvamont Romania reported that 35 people were rescued from mountain terrains within a 24-hour period following 33 emergency calls. Significant operations took place in Argeș, where an 80-year-old man was found after an eight-hour search near Moldoveanu Peak, and in Piatra Craiului, where a group of five tourists required assistance after one member became ill.
Simultaneously, multiple fire incidents have been reported. A large wildfire in Slobozia Conachi covered approximately 150 hectares of land, while another vegetation fire in Sibiu affected 50 hectares. Urban fires also caused casualties and property damage, including a fatal apartment fire in Alunu, Vâlcea, where a man died after jumping from a floor, and a fire in Oradea that resulted in the death of a resident.
In Timiș, firefighters prevented the spread of flames in two separate incidents, while in Arieșeni, a barn was destroyed by fire.
