Fire Engulfs Stuttgart Wholesale Market, Over 100 Firefighters Respond
A large fire broke out in a hall of a wholesale market located in an industrial area of Stuttgart, Germany. The Stuttgart fire department described it as the biggest deployment in years, with more than 100 firefighters, tank fire‑engine vehicles and high‑capacity hose reels fighting the blaze.
The flames produced a dense smoke plume visible across the Neckar River. Authorities used warning‑apps to alert residents within a four‑kilometre radius to keep windows and doors closed. No injuries were reported initially. The market houses over 100 import and wholesale firms supplying fresh produce, vegetables, fruit and flowers to hotels and restaurants, and the fire threatens additional storage halls.
Firefighters continued to pump large volumes of water to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures.
