Saarland, Germany: Residential Fire Evacuates 24 in Landsweiler‑Reden

A large fire broke out on the evening of 3 July in a first‑floor flat of a multi‑family house in Landsweiler‑Reden, a district of Schiffweiler in Saarland. Firefighters from Schiffweiler, Illingen, Merchweiler and Neunkirchen deployed a full‑scale response, including breathing‑apparatus teams and a ladder‑truck, to gain forced entry and control the blaze.

The incident prompted the evacuation of the entire building, home to 24 residents, and the temporary closure of the Kreisstraße. No injuries were reported; a person suspected of smoke‑inhalation was hospitalized as a precaution. Police began an investigation into the cause, with a technical defect in an air‑conditioning unit suspected. After about an hour the fire was extinguished, the damaged flat declared uninhabitable, and the emergency crews began extensive overhaul work. A total of 112 responders from fire, rescue, police and the local energy provider took part.
